Artist Statement

I collect pictures, words, and objects. I see the world as an endless well of possibilities to connect and combine, no matter how far removed two things might seem at first glance. There lies a special kind of joy in the act of joining things, in making them talk to each other, in making them see their innate sameness in their differences. That is why I collect. I take pictures and write down my thoughts or those of people I meet or books I read, and occasionally one of each domain forms a special kind of bond with the other. Sometimes this takes shape with a third component, an object that speaks to both the photograph and the words. Almost always, my work is expressed in series. I am drawn to patterns. This stems from the deep craving to understand patterns in people, in life, and in the way, things intertwine with one another. I want to make things visible and make people feel seen and understood by themselves and others. I collect pictures, words, and objects to make them feel less alone as I merge them together.
